Cloverfield

Ben and I saw Cloverfield last night. It's probably going to be the last movie we see in the theatre before Noodle gets here, unless I can get Ben to take me to see Juno this weekend.

I must say, I wanted to see Cloverfield but I wasn't super crazy excited about it. Now that I've seen it, I've changed my mind. Ben told me in the car on the way there that the director was wanting to make an American Godzilla movie, which I had no idea, so that got me really excited about it!

I think it also probably helped that due to us getting into the theatre late, we ended up sitting in the second row. If you know anything about this movie, you know it's supposed to look as if it's filmed on a video camera from the point of view of one of the characters. The fact that we were less than 20 feet from the screen made it really seem like we were "there". I thought it was going to make me queasy, but it ended up just making my head hurt.

Now if THAT isn't enough to make you go see it, one of the main character's name was Marlena! I thought I had misheard when she was introduced, but NOPE, one more Marlena in the mainstream. It was kind of weird hearing my name over and over, and of course some bad things happen to the characters during the mayhem, and hearing my name called out in terror was kind of spooky. They were even pronouncing it correctly, so I'm hoping if more people see this movie they won't say Mar-LEE-na anymore. They'll get it right and say Mar-LAY-na.

You know, like it's Ne-VAD-a, not Ne-VAH-da. I was born there, so yes, everyone that got in a tizzy about it are RIGHT.

Go see Cloverfield. It's only 84 minutes and if an 8 and a half month preggo lady can sit through it, anyone can. It's a fun ride and of course, there's MONSTERS!!!

Happy New Year!

A bit late. I know. I was lucky that I made it to 12:15 am on New Year's Eve. I was very proud of myself. Ben and I rung in our last childless New Year's Eve VERY low key.

We watched some of our Christmas DVDs and we rented an AWESOME movie called Murder Party. This movie was WAY low budget, but it had really great effects, oh yeah and it was funny as HELL.

Basic premise: This lowly, nerdy, introvert guy comes across a Halloween party invitation to a "Murder Party" and decides to go. The party actually ends up being a set up for some spoiled art students to kill him as "art" to try to gain a grant from an uber-obnoxious artist elitist. A bloodbath ensues and it all goes downhill. We enjoyed the heck out of it, and anyone that loves dark comedy will surely get a kick out of this movie. Especially all you artists out there.

Ben and I are super excited/nervous that Noodle will be here within the next two months and every day is like a countdown to this little person joining our lives.

I'm also coming down with a cold, or at least I'm trying to. I've done a relatively good job of not getting sick this whole pregnancy, mostly sinus congestion, but I think I'm getting the real thing this time. My boss is horribly sick, and he's the only person I've come in close enough contact to who has been sick enough to pass it on to me. So I took yesterday and today off to try to keep myself from getting worse. All my baby books say to get under the covers, get rest and drink fluids at the first sign of illness and not to mess around with it, so I'm taking that advice.

Blah.

So here's to everyone accomplishing their new year's resolutions, whatever they may be, and that everyone has a prosperous and joyous 2008!
