Hooray for Alan Arkin!

I totally forgot that the Oscars were on last night (not that I would have watched them anyway, Kevin Spacey wasn't up for anything, and that's the only time I EVER watch them...) but I looked up the winners this morning and Alan Arkin won Best Supporting Actor for Little Miss Sunshine!

You guys know how much I love Alan Arkin so I'm SUPER happy that he won. He totally deserved it, and if you don't believe me then go rent Little Miss Sunshine right now!

Pan's Labyrinth also won a bunch of awards too, so hooray for them as well!

New Digs, What, Again?!?!

I'm getting all tricked out with my Photoshop knowledge and playing around with CSS. It's a bit more streamlined and monochromatic.

I also figured it would be a good idea to show you guys some of my new color pieces on the side, you know, in case you get bored and feel like looking at something shiny.

I figure a new year, a new look, right?

There's also big changes on the horizon for Blue Sky Comics. Keep your eyes peeled.

Go See Pan's Labyrinth. I Command it.

Ben and I recently saw Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth and it was, in a word, amazing. This isn't your everyday garden variety fairy tale, I wouldn't let my young children even near this movie, but it did capture my sense of wonder, fantasy, innocence and sadly, brutality.

I read on IMDB that this movie got a 20 minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, and I can believe it. I would have given it 30 minutes. This third film in Guillermo's Spanish War Epics is by far my favorite. The Devil's Backbone is a close second because I love a good ghost story, and it's one of the best. Cronos loses to third place because of Guillermo's love affair with snarkyass gnarly bugs in his movies, and the vampire scarab beetle was a bit much for me.

I also love that all of these movies are Spanish language films with English subtitles. It sometimes annoys me to have to read everything that's been said because I then miss looking around at the visuals in the movie, but with Pan, it really wasn't an issue and I actually understood a majority of the dialogue.

Anyway, I recommend everyone see this movie before it leaves the theatres. It really is something that you need to see on the big screen, at least once, to enjoy it to its full capacity. The characters are all so rich and real that I was completely encapsulated in this world.

Ok, ok I can't gush enough about this movie, just go out and see it. You'll get mad, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and at the end, just believe that it was ALL real.

Oh yeah, and go rent The Devil's Backbone, too, if you've never seen it. You'll wet your pants because of its creepiness.

Go get 'em Al!

Today was the last day of the Al Franken show on Air America. I listened to it with a heavy heart because his show is the reason that Air America exists today. So it was sad, but also bittersweet since the reason that today is the last day of his show is because Al has decided to run for a Senate seat in the state of Minnesota. He made the announcement today in the last half hour of his show.

He's launched a new website, AlFranken.com, which I suggest EVERYONE go visit, that is, if you're interested. He's got a great welcome message where he gives one of the greatest reasons I've ever heard for someone to go into politics.

I hope he does well and I think everyone in Minnesota (and hopefully America) will breathe easier if he's elected.

So good luck, Al! My work day won't be the same, but I'll gladly give up hearing you on the radio knowing that you're on a mission to make this country better.

(Oh yeah and Happy Valentine's Day. See, you guys thought I was going to get all schmoopy about Ben, didn't you?)

More than sadness...

There's a lot going on with me right now, and you guys all know what day today is. If not, go through my archives and figure it out. That sounded snotty, didn't it? I didn't mean it to, I just don't feel like going into it right now.

I wish that some things were better, if, for nothing else, at least for the sake of today.

I've done all I can, save for loading up my car and taking a road trip or blowing my savings on a plane ticket, which I'd do in a heartbeat if I didn't have a mortgage payment.

My Mom was half-right. She wouldn't be ashamed right now, she'd be sad and crying about it.

I also wish that I were half as strong as I try to make people believe that I am.

I miss you both, but I've done all I can, I swear.

Coral City Aeronauts

I've just signed up to partner up with Ryan Cody (of Villains fame and he's also a totally rad guy) to do an all new web comic called, you guessed it, Coral City Aeronauts. It's going to be a weekly adventure that's kicking off on March 12, 2007 that will be written and illustrated by Ryan and colored by yours truly.

Check it out:

I'm really excited about it. Ryan's a dynamo so here's to hoping that I don't screw it up!
