49 - This is the last...

Here it is. The last post. I can't believe it. I did it!

Ben drew this as a final send off for the blogathon. I'd like to stop and formally thank him for helping me through the last 24 hours. I KNOW that without him there was no way in HELL I would have been able to get through this.

So thanks, Ben, you're the best husband a nerdy comic girl could EVER hope for.

Thanks to my mom, Alicia (sissypoo), Lori for trying her best, and everyone else that stopped by to say hi and help me get through this. It was fun and maddening all at the same time.

Thanks also to Barbara, my monitor, I hope I kept you entertained enough with my antics!

And of course thanks again to my sponsors, you guys helped me raise $287! That is amazing. It's not too late to give Friends of Lulu a last minute sponsorship though if you missed out. You've got 48 hours and then its totally done with.

I hope you all enjoyed my recap of the 2006 San Diego Comic Convention, with photos! Until next year (maybe) same bat time, same bat channel!

(That was the nerdiest send off I could think of... I know, I'm lame... I'll just go jump in the river now)

That's a fair list, I think.

47 - A List of Things I Hate

That's enough for now I think.

46 - I am a machine

I know this now. Or I have OCD and control issues, because I've refused to let anyone guest blog for me. Is it will power? Is it a need to know that I've fulfilled my promise to my sponsors all on my own with out any help?

I don't know. All I know is in two hours I will have completed this journey that some have fallen from. Its been a GREAT experience... and I distinctly remember Ben and I making a pact that we would not do any more marathon things. But this isn't creating art I thought. I can spew random nonsense for 24 hours, right?

Man, its hard. If I didn't have the comic con and Ronee's pinup to talk about, this would have been ONE boring MOTHER, I'll tell you that for sure.

I usually have to save up all my stories for a week to have anything worth talking about.

I also wish Pegasus was real so that I could ride him to work to avoid traffic.

45 - Women in Comics

This is probably not the best time to be talking about this, as I'm almost levitating and I'm certainly typing in tongues, somewhat. But this is the reason why we're here today.

I guess I've always considered myself a little bit of the odd girl out when it comes to most things. I was a Tomboy growing up (shocking!) and I don't care that much about makeup, fashion and the like. I know what I like and that's about it. I also love comics, which used to not be the norm.

There are now SO many women producing and creating comics, that I don't feel like that much of an outsider anymore. But there is still a HUGE audience out there of women that would probably read more comics if there were some that were marketed towards them.

The scales are sadly tipped in the favor of male readers, and part of that has to do with the medium. There are TONS of women who love comics, I know a lot of them myself, who do read superhero books, and non super hero stuff. We just need more titles!

Was that coherent?

In other news, Bryan is wondering how any woman can enjoy Jim Balent's artwork seeing as how, its pretty suggestive in nature, and how any woman wouldn't be offended.

My sister, being the authority on Catwoman had this to say:

"I enjoy Jim Balent's artwork only when it's applied to the Catwoman comics. Namely, I like the way he makes her face so expressive, no matter what she's doing, whether it be thinking, sassing, kissing, or being pissed off. Although I do enjoy the way he depicts her body, I know it does have a lot to do with the fact that Catwoman is usually fully clothed, because I don't appreciate the other work he has done where boobs are hanging out all over the place.

I've always enjoyed the character Catwoman, and for me, the only one who really captured the raw sensuality of Selina is Jim Balent, which is why he is the only artist I collect when it comes to Catwoman comics. He made her sexy without being slutty (which, I really can't say for most of his other work), and really allowed her to come alive on the page. I think it's some of his best work, personally.

But you know, it could all be just due to the fact that I am a lesbian and I like women's bodies. But then again, I'm not a big fan of slutty art, so... that blows that theory out the window. However, no matter how I feel personally about how Jim draws his other comics, I wouldn't hate the guy for drawing boobs and butts. It takes more than a nipple to get me offended and up in arms about women's rights. Hope that answered your question!"

So Bryan, I hope that clears things up for you a bit.

44 - My cats are PISSED.

Every time I stand up to clear my head or stretch my legs, Fizzgig goes RUNNING into our bedroom because she is READY for bed. Chewie has been asleep under Ben's table for a couple hours now and probably doesn't give two shits. I'm SO in for it when I get up later.

Sorry for the newest "cop out" post...

In other news, I have been steadily munching on a bag of Ritz Toasted Chips, Cheddar variety, and they are DAMN tasty.

That is all.

Also, Tom told me about this website,
Kingdom of Loathing, its sort of like Urban Dead, supposedly, where you play a choose your own adventure type game. I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, but some of you might know about it and/or think its rad.

Thanks to Bryan, my Mom and my Sister for keeping me awake in this last home stretch!

43 - Clash of the Titans!

Yeah, remember about at post #1 where I said I was going to number them so I could keep track? I just noticed that I jacked that up at about post #25...

So I just retitled all my posts with the right numbers. Let's hope I can NOT screw it up for these next 5, huh?

Re-Animator is over and now I've moved on to Clash of the Titans. Burgess Meredith is the SHIT, I'd like to point that out right now...

My sister, Alicia, who is the Uber multitasker here today, posed me a question about comics!

"Are there any artists/writers you would love to work with? Did Jim Balent ask about me?"

So I plan to answer those! There are a ton of artists that I'd like to work with, uh Terry Moore being number one with a bullet. I'd LOVE to color some of Kyle Baker's art as well. Mike Mignola would be rad too, I was told once that my coloring style was like his. I was flattered, but I'm sure Mignola would have been insulted if he'd ever seen that. I'm not really up with my writers, so I couldn't say specifically that there would be anyone I'd like to work with... I'm sure there are, but it's 5 AM and my brain isn't working properly.

Sadly, I was too chicken to talk to Jim Balent, I only walked by and snapped his picture. I was *this close* to going up to him and telling him your Catwoman milk bottle poster story to see if he remembered, but I again, chickened out and ran away.

Yeah here's some of that "random" I was telling you all about many moons ago. HOLY CRAP 8 am can't get here fast enough. 3 more hours!

42 - Adventurous Und Magick Haus

Sorry Bryan and Dave, but since I'm running out of posting ideas, I'd like to introduce everyone to MAGICK HAUS!

"Dave Hartman's second Prime Time show's unspoken premise was simple: Vote for me, and every month, I will bust my ass on mind-blowing visuals, channeling the resultant sleep-deprived schizophrenic breakdown into the story and characters. The result was a truly magickal blend of refined technical expertise and stream of conscious mythology. As with all of Hartman's stuff, Magick Haus was a particular favorite among internet viewers, but the live audience foreclosed on the property in February of 2005, perhaps feeling free to do so because of their knowledge that the creatively addicted Dave Hartman will always be back for more abuse."

Click for the awesomeness!

These are little movie clips, there's only three of them and they're only about 5 minutes long each, but they are HILARIOUS.

Watch, enjoy, and then tell me how funny you think these are.

41 - Marvel or DC?

So my friendly blogathon monitor, Barbara, posed this question to me as a topic for my next post.

My answer to this question is going to be DC. I grew up watching the 60's campy Batman TV show. I read the Batman comics, and its basically because of him that I became interested in comics and have chosen the path that I am on today.

I'm nutty about bats in general, the actual animals, and I don't know if my love for the Batman had anything to do with that, but I enjoy all of the DCU characters. Ben's favorite comic character after Hellboy is the Flash, not that his opinion has anything to do with mine, but there you go.

I read more independent comics now then I did as a kid, but I still buy Batgirl comics, I LOVE Harley Quinn, she's one of my favorite characters and all that stuff.

The Batman Animated Series is one of my favorite TV shows as well. I've been boring Ben to death since last Christmas watching ALL of that show on DVD.

I think that's about as coherent as I can get at the moment. I'm going to go take a jog around my house now and get some chips and a Coke or something to keep myself occupied.

40 - Re-Animator wins out!

So to make things more interesting I'm watching the commentary for Re-Animator. Ben and I will usually watch commentaries on our movies while we're working on comics, because we can just sit there and listen to them without having to sit and watch the movie.

I have to say, this particular commentary is turning out to be pretty funny. Jeffrey Combs is SO awesomely deadpan and funny. If any of you have the Millenium Edition of this movie, I highly recommend watching the commentary.

Movie commentaries are SO much better when the people involved don't take it too seriously, or when there's at least more than one person in the room and they can talk to each other. I think the most boring commentary I ever watched was the Edward Scissorhands one. They had one for Tim Burton and one for Danny Elfman, and I had to turn it off because I was bored to tears. ME, Tim Burton nutbag, bored.

So anyway, this one is really funny, and hopefully it will keep me awake enough to make it through some more postings.

39 - 12 channels and there's nothing on...

Its time for another cop out! Now that Ben is done drawing and I'm done recapping, I've pretty much run out of crap to say...

You know what else? There is NOTHING on basic cable TV at 2:30 AM here in Texas. I'm reduced to old episodes of SNL back when they did have GOOD skits. But I'm still not feeling it.

I may put in another DVD, Bryan has me wanting to watch Re-Animator so I might put that in. I'd watch the Dark Crystal, but its so slow that it might put me to sleep. I also have been wanting to watch the Clash of the Titans lately, or maybe Jason and the Argonauts.

I guess we'll see what happens.

Thanks again to all my sponsors, those of you that have been checking in with me and posting comments to keep ME entertained, and anyone else out there that is still awake at this ungodly hour.

Remember, I'm blogging for Friends of Lulu. In case you forgot that this is all about the comics (women in comics), because I can't seem to shut up about them.

38 - Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey.

Its 2 in the DAMN MORNING...

Normally I'm pretty ok at this hour but tonight its kicking my ASS.

So anyway, Ben and I saw Monster House on Monday after we got back from comic con. It was written by Rob Schrab who is the creator of Scud: The Disposable Assassin, which is another of my favorite comics. You can really tell that Rob had something to do with this movie, though its hard to explain.

If you've never read Scud, I'd suggest going out and getting the graphic novels of them. It's REALLY funny and absurdly random. I love that kind of stuff.

Monster House was a wonderful kids movie that I think adults will really enjoy. The house is pretty scary at times, and there was a group of kids in the theatre with us that we thought were going to hyperventilate by the end of it, they were so wound up.

Also another part of the movie has the little boy and girl sharing a quick kiss, to which the kids behind us let out a collective "EWWW!", which almost had me busting a gut in the theatre.

I know I'm a movie nazi, but I really enjoy it when I'm in a kids movie and the kids are enjoying it as much as I am, because they ARE vocal about it.

Anyway, the animation was really well done, and the story was really simple, but very captivating. I recommend everyone go see this movie, I had a great time and would see it again in a heartbeat.

Yeah so not really a movie review per se, but its 2 AM! What the hell do you expect?!?!

37 - AH DANG!

So I've moved on to watching Mystery Men, one of the BEST movies ever made, in my opinion.

I love Bob Burden and Flaming Carrot comics. So I was really happy that this movie got made.
Its just one of those movies that is ALWAYS funny and I just enjoy watching it. A LOT! Though it kind of wigs me out that Eddie Izzard looks like one of my exes in this movie, sans the disco getup.

I almost knocked this guy over trying to get him to stop so I could take this pic at comic con this year.

I also am SERIOUSLY envying Fizzgig right now. She's keeping me company while Ben still sleeps. I'm about to go shake the shit out of him though because I can't be blamed for my actions.

I still haven't talked about the movie I saw on Monday! I may have a few more coherent thoughts in me yet!

So come back in a few and yes, you may absolutely bring the brewskies...

36 - One more thing

I forgot to mention that I bought a Dunny while at comic con. They were brand new and haven't been released to the mass public yet. There was one with a bat on it and I used my power of positive thinking to WILL the one I bought to be the one with the bat on it. (The Dunnies are random, you don't know which one you're going to get until you open it.)

So I was SO excited that I got the one with the bat on it! So excited in fact, that I totally left the Dunny behind in our hotel room! I called the Sheraton to see if they had it in their lost and found, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

I'm thinking my Dunny is gone Gandhi. :(

Plus they completely sold out of them at the con because I tried to get one for Lori.

I'm a sad tomato.

Only 6 more hours to go and I haven't had a SINGLE guest blogger and I haven't missed a single post! WOOT! or w00t! Take your pick.

Thanks for hanging in there with me people. I think I'm almost to the point where I won't be coherent anymore.

35 - SDCC Day 5 and a completed tale of comic nerdery...

After heel toeing it to the gate to catch our connecting flight, when we got to the gate it said "closed". The little gate agent looked VERY perturbed that we DARED make him open the door to let us in like we were ASSHATS and just didn't bother to get to the airport on time or something.

So we ended up being "those people" getting on the plane late after everyone had already gotten on and were seated. We got the stink eye from almost ALL of the people we passed getting on. I should also mention here that Ben brought his portfolio with him that needed to be flat and he didn't want to put it in the overhead bin for fear of it getting crushed. So for every flight we had to take (there were 4) he had to ask the flight attendants to put his portfolio in the suit jacket closet. He might as well have asked them keep a human head on ice for all the disgusting looks and snide remarks he got from the United people he talked to.

I would also like to mention the fact that the snack bag I packed full of our breakfast and snacks for the convention was searched on our way to San Diego (I'm guessing the drug dog smelled beef jerky and peanut butter and couldn't help himself). This would have been fine if the TSA agents that searched it hadn't "failed" to put all of the items back into the bag! I bought Ben two bags of beef jerky because that's what he likes to snack on and when I unpacked the bag, there was only one bag. I was in a BIG tizzy about it when I unpacked it, because it's one of those "it's the principal" type deals. So yeah, I hope that TSA agent REALLY enjoyed MY beef jerky!

Ok, back to the flight home. Lori is livid at this point because of all that we've had to go through, I blame her Shoes of Doom, and she decides that alcohol is the solution to ALL of her problems. Like this is new, right? So she says she's going to buy me a drink as well.

I decide to get the ingredients for a White Russian, (they didn't have Kahlua, so I had to settle for Bailey's) and I mix it up.

Then... well I'm not quite sure what happened... I had my drink in my hand one second, the next second I'm pouring it on the seat in between myself and Lori. I wasn't drunk, I promise. I didn't get to drink hardly ANY of it. I WISH I could blame it on being drunk. There was no turbulence, can't blame it on that either. If anyone had seen me it would have appeared that I just got a wild hair up my ass and turned the drink over in my crotch.

So not only were we "those people" who got on the plane really LATE, but we were now "those people" who got sloshed and spilled drinks everywhere.

Aye...

To top it all off, our luggage did NOT make the connecting flight, and so I almost gave myself a heart attack for nothing, because we STILL had to wait at the airport for an hour for our luggage to show up. We got home and the cats were OUT of food, its like they sensed we were coming home and decided to eat all their food up to pretend like they had been STARVING for days...

They also used our bed and couch exclusively as their personal beds, so we spent another two hours with our lint brushes de-hairing the bed and the couch so that the hair-cat wouldn't eat us in our sleep.

All in all, we had a GREAT time at the convention. It was a TON of fun and we were SO happy to meet all our new friends, and meet some of our other artist friends in for real true life, finally. And of course, it's always fun to hang out with our old friends, near and far.

Thanks for hanging in there with me, I hope I was entertaining enough for all of you during this. Now I've got to think of some more random nonsense to talk about for the next 7 hours...

The photos are up in the photo gallery now.

And for the lazy or the almost comatose like myself, here's the quick link.

Peace out.

34 - SDCC Day 5 continued!

Here's Adam Sheehan and me on our last day at the con. This is the hardest working man in the business I swear. He was there the whole weekend and I only got to see him for 5 minutes.

So here's Lori and I on the plane. She's got her "La Jolla" hat on. HOLLA HOLLA. And I've got a brown doo-rag on because I'm about to sleep it off and don't care about my hair anymore, not that it looked all that fantastic that weekend anyway.

So yeah, this pictures lies a little bit because we look HAPPY in it. We ended up having to "burn fuel" and sit on the tarmac for almost 45 minutes before we took off out of San Diego to Denver. I think "burning fuel" is code for "some shit is wrong with this bird and we don't want to scare you". I'd rather know what was wrong and choose to ride a donkey back home, personally.

Our flight gets into Denver at approximately 6:15 pm Denver time. Our flight to leave Denver to go back to DFW left at approximately 6:25 pm Denver time. Now, I'm no mathematician, but I think it was almost a safe bet that we were going to miss our flight. Lori was even calling a friend of hers to look for new flights.

We got off the plane and checked our gate for our connection. It was 8 gates away from our current location. I took one look at Ben and Lori and I LITERALLY BEAT CHEEKS to our next gate. I'm fat, and a little out of shape, but I was hauling ASS to get on that plane. Let me tell you.

Next time... the flight home and how much of a clutz I am!

33 - SDCC Day 5

Yes, it's the end of the road for our San Diego trip. I hope you have all enjoyed my antics in my retelling of what went down last weekend.

So before the trip happened, I invited my friend Erin to use my extra pro badge to get into comic con since she lives in California and could actually go. She let me know that she planned on coming to the con on Sunday, which was sadly, the day we were set to leave... early.

We decided that it would be best for us to meet for breakfast and then go into the con in the morning and then we'd leave for the airport and that would be that!

Well, it sort of happened that way...

Erin came to our hotel and we had breakfast in the restaurant in the lobby. It was good, because that's where we had eaten dinner with my Dad the night before. The service was kind of slow, so I was a bit worried, because we were on a tight schedule. But our waiter turned out to be really cool and laid back and Erin, her friend Monica and myself all got stuff from the breakfast buffet. Only Ben was foolish enough to order something from the menu (omelet).

So we get our food and eat it post haste and then try to ride the shuttle to the convention. It was in vain AGAIN, so we hailed a cab. The cab ride was dicey and the guy was kind of a jerk, he stopped and kicked us out WAY before he really needed to.

We were about to walk up to the convention center when Erin realized that she doesn't have her wallet. She needs her wallet, not only for spending cash, but she needs her ID to pick up her badge.

Crap.

So her friend Monica calls the hotel to make sure she didn't leave it at the restaurant, and it wasn't in our cab. Erin realizes its probably in her car, which she left at the hotel. So we beat cheeks to the convention center so she and Monica can ride the shuttle back to our hotel to get her wallet and we don't even get to say goodbye to them because the traffic cop stopped Ben and I from crossing the street after they had already made it across.

We sent each other some "bye!" text messages and then it was our last whirlwind day to run around the con and make some last minute purchases! Stay tuned for the trip home!

32 - Wonder Woman Inked!

Here's Ben's finished rendering of Wonder Woman! I hope Ronee likes it, and I'm so not going to be able to color it tonight. I'll try, but my elbow is in some serious hurt right now, and it's my left one, which is my writing and Wacom elbow. :(

Sorry Ronee, I'll color it this week sometime.

Ben says "It's the 80's version. Or the Super Friends version".

Enjoy!

31 - Crapfest

Yeah, I'm copping out again.

I'm getting day 5 of SDCC photos ready. This takes FOREVER to do, man.

So, everyone go play some Urban Dead. Its the COOLEST free, online, doesn't take much time to play game EVER. You get to fight zombies or play a zombie! Its awesome!

Check it out!

That's all I got for this half hour, guys. Sorry. I don't like that Blogger's spellcheck does not have the word "Blogger" in it, or the word "Crapfest".

30 - Irish Car Bombs are NASTY

I just thought I'd clarify that.

So Ben and I head to the Hyatt after dinner with my Dad to meet up with our friends Melly, Thomas, Brock, David and whoever else we happened to catch out there.

I guess Thomas and Melly had met Patton Oswalt at some point and are kind of friends with him, and so Thomas called him up and then Melly talked to him for a bit. How rad is that? This is a pic of Melly on the phone with him:

Brock also wanted to do an Irish Car Bomb with someone, so I volunteered thinking they were something else... Marlena doesn't like beer. So drinking a shot of Bailey's in a glass of Guinness is NOT my idea of a tasty adult beverage. Oh well, live and learn.

He also wanted a Colorado Bulldog, which I HAVE had and DO like, so I was all about that.

We called it an evening pretty early (before 2 am, sadly, was calling it early this particular weekend) and headed back to our hotel.

What do you know, the pics for this day are ALREADY up in the photo gallery! YAY!

For you lazy sods, CLICK HERE.

29 - SDCC Day 4 recap!

Yes, it's time! So its Saturday at the Comic Con and who do we run into? Our favorite Arkhamites! D and the Bear!

Apparently, the first person to stop them on the convention floor was awarded "The Bear Prize". Since I told them what time Ben and I would be signing at the Viper booth and they stopped by, I technically won it! WOOT!

We caught up with our friend Rafael Navarro who is the creator of Sonambulo, a VERY awesome comic. I recommend everyone go out and pick it up.

The con was JAM PACKED with people that day so I didn't get that many pictures because it was either take pictures and have my blood pressure go up by my annoyance, or just try to trudge through the day looking at stuff and trying to have a good time. The latter won out, obviously.

My Dad and my sister were supposed to come up for the weekend and Alicia was going to come to the convention with us and my Dad would probably have golfed the whole time or something, but she couldn't come, so my Dad came up and we had dinner with him that night.

It was a WELCOME getaway from the hustle and buzz of the convention to just sit down to a relaxing meal without having to leave our hotel. It was AWESOME. AND I got to see my DAD!

Next up, Ben and I head to the Hyatt to meet up with some friends for more debauchery!

28 - You've got red on you.

I've just put on Shaun of the Dead to keep me going for the next hour or so. I'm trying to get the Day 4 of SDCC photos ready to recap about, so this post will be short and sweet.

Here's to my third "cop out" post.

Mindless nerd trivia! Did you know that Peter Serafinowicz, who plays Pete in Shaun of the Dead, also did the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace? Apparently, Ray Park had too much of an accent to get the job done. I've met Ray Park and I would say that I have to agree.

Also, Chris just sent me THIS LINK about new Dark Crystal figures! Holy CRAP they are RAD...

So chew on that for 30 minutes and hopefully I'll have the start of SDCC Day 4 ready to go by then!

27 - Here we come on the run...

With a burger on a bun. Yeah, Ben and I just had dinner so there's not much going on right now other than indigestion.

I guess you can take a peek at my portfolio of work, or the rest of my photo gallery (there's more in there than comics, folks) if you're bored.

26 - We're over halfway there now!

WOOT, we've hit post number 25!

Let's start the downward spiral of this, my first ever blogathon, with another Wonder Woman image! This is the last of the pencils, so I've been informed, Ben is going to ink her next.

So yeah, its probably obvious that I'm NOT going to get to color this for you, Ronee, before the night is over. I may be able to lay some flats down before I'm a puddle of goo.

CHEERS to Lori who has finally found some wi-fi! And check out my sister! Why? Because she ROCKS, that's why! Thanks to everyone who has stuck with me so far and given me their comments. You guys are the best.

25 - Wonder Woman She's like BU-TTAH!

More with the Wonder Woman goodness!

The SDCC Day 3 photos are now up in the photo gallery.

Again, with the laziness, comes the quick link.

Kudos to anyone that can guess where the title to THIS blog comes from. Not the Wonder Woman part... if you've been paying attention, you'll probably know this.

24 - SDCC Day 3 And Drinks and Drinks and Drinks...

So after Dussini the 6 of us headed over to the Blarney Stone to meet up with the rest of the Viper crew for some drinks.

First of all, I think they should rename this pub the BRIMSTONE because it was like the 9th circle of HELL in this place it was so freaking hot, and I'm from Vegas, I KNOW hot. Good thing I brought my doo-rag (sp? Am I using the right hip term here?) so I could cage my wild hair since it was slowly turning into a mountain of cotton because of the humidity and it being frizzy anyway.

So we get there and find that Jim has been buying plenty of drinks for everyone and we were joining the festivities a little bit late. Tamey told me that she had been given some really good apple-type-beer-cider that was REALLY good and she didn't know how many she'd had. It sounded good so I had Jim get me one too and we started in on the night.

Hooray BEER! Thanks to Tamey for this awesome photo of me with my happy whatever it was I was drinking.

There was a one man band playing, doing some covers and Guy was having a good time dancing and jumping around. It was HIGH comedy. I bought a round of White Russians and I think we did some shots of Buttery Nipples, my FAVE shot ever, as long as they are made right, which sadly, the one night I got one at Dussini, they were made wrong. But oh well, it all goes to the same place anyway.

At one point, I got up to use the bathroom when Monica comes in and asks if I'm in there. I call out that yeah, I'm in here, to which she tells me we have to go.

Wha?

So I finish my "business" and come out to find all of us heading out the door because we had been asked to leave. Some ice got thrown at the one man band, supposedly, and I guess he wasn't hip to us newbies because we didn't sing along with him like all the other people that were there, and we were 86'd.

Uh...I still had an open tab to take care of and THAT took another 2 years to get done. Apparently when they want you OUT they want you out, unless you want to PAY them, then they don't care about you. I finally get my tab paid and we're waiting outside for Jim to finish up.

We start walking to the Ralph's down the street, to get more booze, I can only imagine, its a bit foggy for me, when I get a call from Lori that she wants us to come hang out with her and Chris at the Eisner Awards after party shindig.

We reluctantly left our group and headed back over to the convention center and had a few drinks with Chris and Lori before calling it a night.

One of the highlights of our night was our shuttle driver back to our hotel. His name was Charlie Brown (I swear, that's what he told us) and he let us listen to some AWESOME blues and jazz on our way back. It made the trip THAT much more enjoyable. He was really awesome. I wish he could have been our driver EVERY time...

23 - New Wonder woman!

Its on to the pencils now.

I can't believe it hasn't even been 12 hours yet. I'm crackin' like the Kraken. Oh my god, did I just say that?

Well, now I have fulfilled my prophecy of spewing the random.

SDCC Day 3 wrap up, coming up next!

Oh and if anyone is in Fort Worth that is reading this, do you know of any place that has working wi-fi? Lori is STRANDED with no internet which is why her blogging has blown SERIOUS goats as of late...

22 - SDCC Day 3 Recap Dinner and Drinks

After the panel, we were supposed to meet up with Guy and Tamey LeMay for dinner and then drinks afterwards. Guy is another comic artist that worked on one of the Dead@17: Rough Cut stories for Viper Comics with us (he does other awesome stuff too check it out!), and his wife Tamey is a BIG Catwoman fan, among other things, and we've sort of had to be virtual friends since they live in California and we live in Texas.

Last year we missed hanging out with them after the Eisners and so we made it a plan to hang out this year.

They thought they had dinner plans and were going to meet up with us later, so Ben, Tom, Ryan Cody (main artist on Villains for Viper Comics. He's awesome, check him out!) and I went in search of food. Bryan and Monica called to see what the plan was and they met all of us down at this placed called Trophy's that Ryan had eaten at the previous day and had given the thumbs up.

Dinner was really good. I really liked their fries, I know, random right? But they were tasty! We all got into the NERDIEST discussion EVER about all of the bronze sports statues that they had around the restaurant though. We were talking about them being prisoners of the place that came to life at night to clean the restaurant, to them being previous convention goers that knew nothing about sports and were forced to live as statues while the other nerds got to go to the convention... there was other stuff that was said, but I can't remember it now... it was PRETTY nerdy, I'll tell you.

The tables there also had paper tableclothes, which I think is cool for a place like that, because most sporty men are messy eaters, and comic nerds are no exception. Except, when you get artist comic nerds at a table together stuff like this tends to happen:

From Ben:

From Ryan:

From Tom:

From Bryan:

It was fun times. After dinner we went to Dussini AGAIN and had some drinks because Josh and Jessie were supposed to be having a meeting and they needed time to get that done. So I finally got the green apple mojito I had been trying to drink the last time we went. Monica was feeling brave on Thursday night and ordered a chocolate Martini that was a little bit too strong. I was feeling fine so we traded drinks and she liked the mojito MUCH better. I couldn't even drink that martini, so I made Ben finish it off. Blech!

And so we had some fun times until Josh called and said their meeting was cancelled and to come meet them at this place called the Blarney Stone.

Then things got a bit dicey...

21 - SDCC Day 3 continued

Holy crap have I really posted 21 times today? I'm shocked and amazed, my friends. Seriously.

So Friday afternoon held the ONE panel that I absolutely HAD to go to or else the whole trip would have been a waste for me. The Power of the Dark Crystal panel. It may have been a Muppets Henson panel, but they were going to talk about the Dark Crystal sequel.

I'm sad to report that they really didn't tell us much about it that I already didn't know. They didn't even have any concept art to go with it. So I was a little disappointed, but getting to see Genndy Tartakovsky and Brian Froud talk about it was AWESOME and made up for A LOT. Brian Froud is so cute I just wanted to snatch him up and carry him around in my pocket.

Anyway, they also showed up some clips of this Muppet improv show that Henson productions is doing, which was HILARIOUS.

In the above picture, there's a little dog on the right named Piddles, and the dog is wearing a diaper. Tom or Ben will have to remind us of what else the dog did, but I remember it being really funny. Sorry, I have the memory of a goldfish so I'm surprised my recap has been as coherent as it has thus far.

So really the panel was just a pre-pre-production thing to get us Dark Crystal nerds all excited and then sad.

The one funny thing I DO remember, however, was they asked people to get up and ask questions towards the end and someone asked them about a Labyrinth sequel to which they replied there was none planned at this time and that they didn't think David Bowie would be up for another one. Not two people later, someone else asked the SAME QUESTION!

Uh... Hello? Hello? Is this thing on? I think the guy that asked that was too intent on asking the question to even think about what other people were asking. Sadder still, this guy got to ask the LAST question which I'm sure gave all the panelists the impression that we were ALL not paying attention and would, if given the chance, ask equally moronic questions.

AYE...

And I also want to say that I freaking LOVE the Garthims from the original Dark Crystal. They were ALWAYS my favorite things. Except for Fizzgig, who I named one of my cats after...

So anyway, I ran out of time this half hour, but the dinner and drinks story is on its way!

20 - Photos and Photos and Photos

Another Wonder Woman image!

Here are my cats, Chewbacca and Fizzgig, respectively. At this moment they are BOTH doing what I would like to be doing right about now...

Taking a little nap. Or at least sitting in a chair that doesn't put both of my buttcheeks to sleep.

19 - SDCC Day 3 and another Wonder Woman image

Here's another image of Ben's Wonder Woman pinup. Isn't she lovely?
Ok, time for Day 3 of SDCC 2006! Ben and I had to get up early to try to make it to the Hellboy Animated panel because we're nerds about Hellboy and we HAD to see it. Of course, due to traffic, the shuttle didn't arrive in time to get us to the convention center, so we had to take a cab.

Apparently, the traffic was SO bad this year because there were so many people attending, that the shuttles were running late for every day of the con for the first couple of hours.

So we get to the con and beat cheeks to the panel room only to be told that the entrance is on the OTHER side of the rooms. The side we're on is exit only. Groan. So we beat cheeks to the other side of the panel rooms and make it inside.

They started off showing a small clip from the cartoon, which looked AMAZING. It was a bit rough in places, and we were told this wasn't a final clip of it, but I thought it was really great.

Mike Mignola, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, and Guillermo del Toro were on hand to talk all things Hellboy, and tell us about how Sean was picked as the artist. The DVD of the cartoon comes out in February and its going to be shown on Cartoon Network's Toonami around Halloween. I can't WAIT.

After the panel was over, we received the ONLY freebie I got from anything the WHOLE time:

Hellboy T-shirt! But it was WELL worth it. And since Ben and I are together, we got two! WOOT! I thinks that brings my t-shirt tally from the con to about 10. Why, oh why do I think I need more t-shirts? I don't know.

But I got a BUNCH from the dumbrella booth and they are spiffy. The Gamera one is my favorite. Because Gamera is really neat, Gamera is full of meat. We all love you GAM-ER-A!

Ok, so after the Hellboy panel, we had our Viper signing which went well, thanks again to everyone that stopped by and chatted us up. Ben always gets mad at me because I don't feel like I need to be there behind the table at our signings. I just don't think anyone really cares about the colorist, its all about the artists and then the writers, and I feel like I have nothing to do while I'm there. So if you see me at a con, stroke my ego by telling me how wonderful my colors are even if you think they look like baby puke. I'll love you forever if you do.

Then we stopped by the booth of Rhode Montijo (he's on the right), who was sharing a booth with Jamie Baker.

If you haven't read Pablo's Inferno, I implore you to do so. Its one of the best comics I've ever read. Its really cute and very heartfelt. Rhode is ALSO one of the NICEST guys I've EVER met. He seems genuinely grateful when people stop by and he's always got time to talk to a fan. I bought his new book, Cloud Boy and another t-shirt. Check his work out, its awesome!

Coming up, the Power of the Dark Crystal panel and DINNER!

18 - Circus Animal Cookies

How tasty are these cookies?! Damn tasty, that's for sure. I'm having some right now and they are really good. Sorry, I'm just trying not to pull a Lori and not post on time. ZING!

I found this image on google from this girl's Flickr site. Pretty cool photos!

SDCC day 3 update coming up shortly, I promise.

17 - New Wonder Woman Sketch Progress

Here's two more images of Ben's progress on the Wonder Woman pinup for Ronee.

Enjoy!

16 - Superman!

I'm starting to get a little bored... I haven't run out of stuff to say, oh no, but I'm getting antsy sitting in this room. I've gotten up and walked around the house a bit, played with the cats and got a Coke, but I'm getting kinda nutty.

How to solve this problem, you ask?

Why, put on Superman, of course! What better way to keep yourself going than to watch one of the best movies, EVER? I'll probably put on Shaun of the Dead next, because that movie always makes me smile.

So... does anyone want to know anything? To give me some short posts since the Day 3 recap has a TON of pictures that I need to get through before I can start telling you all about them?

Oh yeah, and the timestamp on my blog is wack which is why the times are so varied... I was going to try and fix it, but Blogger gets wonky sometimes and I didn't want to risk trying to republish the whole thing to have it go tits up on me.

I guess that's it for now. Carry on.

15 - Wonder Woman Sketch Progress

Ok people, here is the first look at Ronee's Wonder Woman sketch!

Ben hasn't decided which version he's going to do yet, but its going to be one of these!

14 - Ready, Set DRAW!

So Ben has finally gotten his Wonder Woman pinup underway, kiddies! He's sketching out some ideas right now and I will be posting the first rough sketch soon, so sit tight!

Recap for Day 3 of Comic Con is coming soon. It's REALLY hot today and this room is heating up like a Dutch oven, so I think the next couple of posts might be more like a weak tea than a hot cup of java.

I also have to check on some other bloggers and stir things up with them for awhile.

If you haven't yet, visit the Friends of Lulu site and check out some of the stuff they're doing. They've got their own comic con recap going on as well. Though not every 30 minutes like yours truly.

And thanks again to those of you who keep sponsoring me! I probably can't say that enough, FoL is a GREAT organization and if this helps them just a little bit in the promotion for the awareness of women creators and women readers, then I know my purpose is served.

I know I'm not curing cancer here or saving animals, but this is something that is close to my heart and I really feel strongly about this, so thanks, Alicia, for not letting me trivialize what I'm doing here.

13 - SDCC Day 2 Dinner

While we were at the convention, we wanted to meet up with David Hartman and his wife, Kathleen, because Ben and David have been getting chatty on deviantArt.

So we made a trip to David's table during the day and were gaga over all of his fantastic art. David is also great pals with Bryan Baugh, another artist, who also has a book out with Viper Comics called the Expendable One (check it out, its AWESOME!). We were eager to meet Bryan and his wife, Monica, in the flesh as well.

We hung out at the convention and were trying to figure out a good time to have dinner. They had already made plans to eat at the Fish Market in the seafood village area of San Diego for that night and we were going to reschedule when Monica found us later on to let us know that two in their party had cancelled and they wanted us to join them that night.

Fish Market? *gulp* Marlena does not eat fish, you see. Monica, who is SO awesome and one of the nicest people EVER, called the restaurant and found out that they have several chicken entrees and that I should be ok to eat there. I ended up getting the chicken Caesar salad, which was WONDERFUL. Kathleen told us about these awesome potatoes that they have there and Ben got some, but was stingy and didn't give me any! So next time, I'm totally getting the other chicken dish and getting some of those potatoes!

Dinner was awesome, and afterwards Bryan, Monica, Ben and I headed BACK to Dussini for some cocktails. The Hartmans had their 3 year old daughter Vivienne with them and had to call it a night early. Vivienne, by the way, is THE cutest kid!

Monica and I experimented with Mojitos and Martinis while the boys went with sure things like beers and White Russians. Though Bryan DID get a Brain Tumor shot, which I thought sounded gross, yet tasty at the same time.

We had a great time, and now we have 4 new friends that make us wish we lived in LA so we could hang out with them more...

All the pics from Day 2 are now up in the photo gallery! Also, I added a handy dandy link for each day on the pop ups for the galleries, look for Day 1 and Day 2 links on the pop up pages...

If you're lazy, click HERE for the Day 2 gallery.

12 - SDCC Day 2 continued

So we're walking around taking pictures of stuff, and I see Jim Balent's booth. Jim is the former artist on Catwoman, whom my sister LOVES. She was supposed to come to comic con, but she has an injury that prevents her from walking around and standing for long periods of time... which is ALL you do at comic con, so I quickly snapped this photo of him for her.

Again, I'm too chicken to go up and talk to anyone, so this is ALL she gets! I did swing by the Lego booth and grab her a Catwoman Lego keychain as a consolation prize though.

I DID however get up the nerve to talk to Kyle Baker again. I talked to him last year and he was SO nice that I figured I could do it again and not act like a jackass. NOPE! I did act like a jackass, but I'm hoping he didn't notice.

He was nice enough to even pose for a picture with me. I purchased the Nat Turner graphic novel and a copy of the Bakers and then I ran away.

Next up, the Baughs, the Hartmans and Marlena steps foot in a Fish Market?!?!

11 - SDCC Day 2

Day two starts with Ben, Lori and I waiting in vain AGAIN outside of our hotel for the shuttle to the convention center to pick us up. Again the shuttle never shows up, and we're due at the con for some signing time at 10 am... We attempt to grab a cab to the convention center when we come across a guy who runs a towncar service for the hotel. He says he'll take us anywhere we want to go for $8.

WOOT. We're in. He gave me his card and I have since lost it, because I'm lame, but I think his name was Jim. He regaled us with stories of Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald and who was nicer. Turns out, Michael McDonald is. Who knew?

He drops us off at the Hyatt so we wouldn't have to wait in traffic for too long while he tried to navigate his way to the con center, and also, I'm sure, so he could get back to the hotel and make some more cash. We thank him and make our sweaty pit walk to the show.

Here I'd like to comment on the weather we experienced in San Diego... Normally San Diego is very mild, being so close to the ocean, not too humid, surprisingly. Most places don't even have A/C because they rarely need to use it. Not this weekend! It was almost as hot as it is in Texas, AND just about as humid. The walk from the Hyatt to the convention center was enough to disintegrate ALL of my deodorant, perfume and makeup right off my body. Thank goodness I brought some perfume and a travel B.O. blocker that fit in my purse. It was THAT gross... Since we've been home, I've heard that California has had the worst weather in history as far as being hot. Glad we got out when we did.

We get inside the convention center, do our signing at the Viper Comics booth, which went well. Thanks to everyone that stopped by and said hi and bought some Protectorate comics! Then Ben and I trolled the floor looking for cool stuff!

The above picture was one rad thing we found. Yay for Voltron! I jumped in for Ben to take my picture, not realizing that about ten other people were doing the same. So I'm sure my goofy mug is all over other people's galleries of their trip. I apologize to anyone that had to capture me in my element on film...

Stay tuned!

10 - Plugging Time!

Ben just came back with some lunch so sorry folks, but I AM going to take a quick break to eat it.

So check out these fine blogs that I've come across this morning:

Devin over at El Blog de los Amigos who is blogging for The Hello Win Column Fund. Which "is an amazing organization run by Cindy and Jeff Kuster. Cindy is the daughter of the late Rangers broadcasting legend, Mark Holtz." Check him out, he's doing this AND driving. He's nuts!

Also is Abstract Utopia who is blogging for the Georgia Special Olympics. Pretty funny stuff, the blog, not the Olympics.

Also, there's Caryn at noumena. She's blogging for the American Cancer Society.

Check them out while I take a quick break for lunch.

9 - Corn nuts

So yeah, I've got nothing. Day 2 recap is on it's way, but I need to get the pics in order so I can remember what the hell happened that day.

I will say that I did NOT get any In N Out Burger while I was in California this year. I'm VERY pissed about that...

So whomever in my family is picking us up from the airport in Vegas for Christmas this year, if you do NOT take me to In N Out post haste... well, I can't be responsible for my actions. You guys KNOW how I get.

Oh yeah, and who can tell me what movie the title to this blog is from?

8 - A little bit of the old random...

The photo gallery has been updated with ALL of the pictures from SDCC Day 1 for your viewing pleasure!

Here's a quick link if you're too lazy to find it in the gallery. I'll let you guys digest those for a bit while I take a quick break from the recapping. If you see any typos in my witty captions in the photo gallery, let me know, I typed them at Mach 10 and I'm too lazy to spell check right now.

This is me in our dungeon of a study where the magic is happening today. Don't I look fresh as a daisy? I've got my La Jolla (or as Lori says, "La Holla") shirt that I bought in San Diego on, though you can't see it.

7 - SDCC Day 1 even MORE continued

I'm on a ROLL now! Ok, so we get to the convention and are left waiting in the wings for almost 20 minutes before they start letting people in, and let me tell you... it was getting pretty crazy. I think standing between a bunch of ravenous nerds and their nerd mecca is a BIG mistake. People were getting frenzied looks in their eyes and the poor little red shirts were almost trampled when they finally gave the green light for us to go in...

First up we had to stop by SHAG's table so Chris could buy one of his lithographs:

I'm painfully shy when it comes to "celebrities" and so I could only snap two pictures of him (he's on the left in the green suit behind all the prints) before I scurried away like a stupid kid. I got a nice picture of SHAG's back that will pop up later today... I wish I could just ask people for their picture, but I hate to bother someone and I know it's the first time I'M asking them for a photo, but I
